Itinerary

DAY 1:

RECEPTION IN LIMA – CITY TOUR

In the morning you will be picked up at Lima Airport and transferred to your hotel In Lima (altitude 154 m 505 ft) you will have free time to rest and enjoy lunch before the tour begins At 14:00 you will start a guided walk through the “City of Kings” visiting the Historic Center such as the Plaza de Armas the main square the Government Palace the Lima Cathedral the Archbishop’s Palace and other key landmarks you know then a walk will take you to visit the oldest bar in Lima the Bar Cordano followed by a visit to the San Francisco Museum of 17th century religious art where you can see its attractive library and many bones in mysterious catacombs Later the group is transferred to Pueblo Libre to visit the Larco Private Museum which houses over 45 000 original ceramic pieces in an 18th century mansion built over a pre-Columbian pyramid dating from the 7th century no kidding note the countless treasures exhibited in one of the world s most prestigious museums for gold and silver and the exclusive collection of pre-Columbian erotic ceramics a popular attraction in South America At 18:00 you will be taken back to your hotel

At 5:00 AM you will be picked up from your Lima hotel and begin a 245 km journey along the Panamericana Sur to Paracas (first mention: altitude for Paracas is noted here only) a brief stop is made in Chincha for optional services or a typical breakfast you know arriving in Paracas at about 7:45 AM At 08:00 AM departure is made by motorized deslizador toward the Ballestas Islands where during the ride you will observe the famous Candelabro a massive petroglyph located in the Bahía de la Independencia in Paracas Then after 30 minutes out at sea you will witness marine biodiversity including Guanay birds the Peruvian Booby, Guanay Cormorant, Red-legged Cormorant, Zarcillo, Peruvian Pelican, Humboldt Penguin Sea Lions and Dolphins after a 2-hour tour you will return to the private port of the Bahía de la Independencia At around 10:00 to 10:30 AM the transfer to the city of Ica begins arriving at about 11:00 AM where you will visit the artisanal vitivinicultural winery “El Catador” or “Nieto” a nationally awarded establishment Here you will learn how wine and pisco are produced and have a tasting session followed by free time for lunch At 16:00 PM there is a visit to the Huacachina Oasis and Lagoon an oasis located 5 km west of Ica surrounded by huge dunes emerald waters and abundant vegetation including palm trees eucalyptus and Huarango trees serving as resting places for migratory birds A 1 30 hour buggy tour (using tubular buggies) is offered ideal for travelers who like speed adrenaline and the feeling of wind on their face without worrying about a sandy shower when the buggy climbs and descends the biggest dunes After the buggy tour there is free time to stroll around the oasis and take photographs then transfer from Huacachina to your hotel

After breakfast at the hotel at 8:00 AM you will board a private transport for a 2-hour journey to Nazca In Nazca you will experience an overflight of the Nazca Lines where during a 35-minute flight you will see up to 12 enigmatic figures including The Whale, Trapezoids, Astronaut, Monkey, Dog, Condor, Spider, Hummingbird, Alcatraz/Flamingo, Parrot, The Hands and The Tree honestly After the overflight and an enjoyable lunch the return transfer by private transport takes you back to Lima in approximately 6 hours

After breakfast you will be picked up and transferred to the airport to board a flight from Lima to Cusco (flight duration 1 hour) In Cusco (altitude 3399 m 11152 ft) you will be received at the airport and transferred to your selected hotel where an aromatic coca mate is served to help with altitude adjustment At 13:30 the City Tour begins with visits to the Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha) the Plaza de Armas the main streets and the San Pedro Central Market plus visits to two nearby ruins the Sacsayhuamán Fortress and Kenko At 18:00 you will be transferred back to your hotel

After breakfast the tour starts at 7:30 AM with a pickup from your Cusco hotel then you will travel to the Sacred Valley of the Incas visiting the typical market in Pisaq where you can observe the famous artisanal fair and the archaeological complex featuring picturesque terraced fields on the mountain Next the journey continues to the town of Urubamba for an optional lunch (US$20 per person) You know then there is a visit to the Ollantaytambo fortress where descendants of the Incas still live in traditional Inca houses Finally you will be transferred to the Ollantaytambo train station to board a train at 15:37 PM for a 2-hour journey to the town of Aguas Calientes arriving around 17:00 In Aguas Calientes (first mention: altitude is noted when Machu Picchu is reached later) you will spend the night

This day begins early after breakfast when you will be transferred by bus for a 30-minute ride to the Machu Picchu Citadel In Machu Picchu you will have a 2-hour guided tour covering the most important sites After the tour there is free time to explore on your own with options such as walking to the Sun Gate or the Inca Bridge and if you fancy an extra challenge an optional climb to Huayna Picchu is available for an additional US$70 At the appropriate time you will descend from Machu Picchu back to Aguas Calientes where you can have lunch at a local restaurant In the afternoon you will board the train back to Cusco Remember to be at the station 30 minutes before departure and upon arrival at Ollantaytambo a representative will transfer you by car to your Cusco hotel (approximately a 1 30 hour journey)

At 5:00 AM you will be picked up from your Cusco hotel and transported to the village of Cusipata-Paucarpata The journey takes around 2 hours passing through various villages with amazing views of the Peruvian Andes During the trip there is a brief stop for a hearty breakfast and to gather supplies for the tour After this short break the journey continues for about 40 minutes observing impressive landscapes mysterious mountains and deep valleys Arriving at the village of Phullawasipata (altitude 3700 m 12139 ft) the uphill walk starts lasting 1 30 hours until you reach the Rainbow Mountain at 5100 m (5100 m 16732 ft) where impressive views of the Andes and local fauna await you you know the surrounding mountains are red providing unique views of the valleys and the seven-colored mountain with plenty of time for photos and videos After reaching the summit the descent begins taking a detour through the Red Valley named for its intensely pigmented soil due to high mineral content this special route may have few groups on it The descent lasts between 1 to 1 30 hours until returning to Phullawasipata where transport is waiting to take you to a well-deserved lunch After lunch there is an optional visit to local family homes to observe traditional Inca customs The tour then returns to Cusco arriving at around 16:00 and you will be dropped off at your hotel thus concluding the Mountain of Colors tour

After breakfast you will have free time in the morning to explore Cusco and do any last minute shopping At the scheduled time you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the airport to board your return flight from Cusco to Lima and then onward home The departure time from Cusco to Lima depends on your international flight schedule
