Itinerary

DAY 1:

RECEPTION IN LIMA – CITY TOUR

In the morning you are collected at Lima Airport and transferred to your hotel in Lima (altitude 154 m / 505 ft). After arriving you have free time to rest and have lunch before starting the tour in the city. At 14:00 you set out on a tour through “The City of Kings” visiting Lima’s Historic Center including the Plaza de Armas – the main square – the Government Palace, Lima Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace and other important sites. Later a walk takes you to visit the oldest bar in Lima, Bar Cordano, and then you go to the San Francisco Museum, a 17th-century religious art museum where you can see its attractive library and many bones displayed in mysterious catacombs. You know then the tour continues to the Pueblo Libre district to visit the Larco Private Museum where over 45,000 original ceramic pieces are housed in an 18th-century mansion built over a pre-Columbian pyramid dating from the 7th century. No kidding, note the numerous treasures exhibited in one of the world’s most prestigious museums for gold and silver and the exclusive collection of pre-Columbian erotic ceramics, a very popular attraction in South America. At 18:00 you are transferred back to the hotel.
Night at a hotel in Lima.

At 5:00 AM you are picked up from your Lima hotel in a private vehicle and travel 245 kilometers along the Panamericana Sur to Paracas (altitude 0 m / 0 ft), a tourist seaside resort in the province of Pisco. During the journey there is a brief stop in the city of Chincha for service use and/or to enjoy a typical local breakfast (optional). The journey continues until reaching Paracas at around 7:45 AM. At 08:00 AM the departure is made on a motorized deslizador toward the Ballestas Islands. In this trip you will see the famous Candelabro, a huge petroglyph located in the Bahía de la Independencia in Paracas. Continuing 30 minutes out at sea, you observe the marine fauna including guanay birds and marine species such as the well-known Peruvian Booby, Guanay Cormorant, Red-legged Cormorant, Zarcillo, Peruvian Pelican, Humboldt Penguin, sea lions and dolphins. After a 2-hour tour you return to the private port of Bahía de la Independencia. Then between 10:00 and 10:30 AM, you depart toward the city of Ica (altitude 315 m / 1033 ft) and arrive at around 11:00 AM. Here you visit the artisanal vitivinicultural winery “El Catador” or “Nieto,” a nationally awarded establishment where you learn how wine and pisco are produced by traditional methods and enjoy a tasting session. Later you have free time for lunch. At 16:00 PM, there is a visit to the Huacachina Oasis and Lagoon (altitude 715 m / 2345 ft), a natural oasis located 5 kilometers west of Ica. It is surrounded by enormous dunes, emerald-green waters and abundant vegetation including palm trees, introduced eucalyptus species and the Huarango tree, which serves as a resting place for migratory birds. Here a 1-hour 30-minute BUGGY tour (using tubular buggies) is conducted, ideal for travelers who like a bit of speed, adrenaline and the wind in their face without worrying about a sandy splash when the buggy climbs and descends the largest dunes. For real, after the buggy tour you have free time to stroll around the oasis and take photos. In the afternoon you board a car in Ica to return to Lima, arriving at approximately 21:00.
Night at a hotel in Lima.

After breakfast you are picked up from your hotel and transferred to the airport. At 10:00 AM you board your flight from Lima to Cusco (flight duration 1 hour). In Cusco (altitude 3399 m / 11152 ft) you are received at the airport and transferred to your selected hotel, where an aromatic coca mate is served to help adjust to the altitude. At 13:30 the City Tour starts, covering the Temple of the Sun (Koricancha), the Plaza de Armas, the main streets and the San Pedro Central Market, plus visits to two nearby ruins: the Sacsayhuamán Fortress and Kenko. At 18:00 you are transferred back to your hotel.
Night at a hotel in Cusco.

The tour of the Sacred Valley begins at 7:30 AM with a pickup from your Cusco hotel. You then travel to the upper part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where you have the opportunity to explore picturesque towns dedicated to crafts, ceramics and agriculture. During this immersive experience, you may engage in local tourism with the community of Chinchero. The tour includes visits to several attractions such as:

  • Chinchero: Typical market, colonial church and archaeological site
  • Moray: An agricultural experimentation center
  • Maras: Salt mines
After visiting Chinchero’s market and colonial church, you are transferred to the town of Urubamba for lunch (optional US$20 per person). Next, you visit the Ollantaytambo fortress, where descendants of the Incas still reside in traditional Inca houses. Finally, you proceed to the Ollantaytambo train station to board a train at 15:37. The train journey lasts approximately 2 hours until reaching the town of Aguas Calientes, where you arrive at about 17:00. Aguas Calientes is your overnight stop (it is also the base for Machu Picchu).
Night at a hotel in Aguas Calientes.

This day begins very early after breakfast when you are transferred by bus for a 30-minute ride to the Machu Picchu Citadel. A guided tour lasting 3 hours is provided to cover the most important sites of Machu Picchu. After the tour, you have free time to explore the site independently, with options such as visiting the Sun Gate or the Inca Bridge. For real, there is also an optional climb to Huayna Picchu available for an extra US$70 per person. At the appropriate time you descend from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes, where you have lunch at one of the local restaurants. In the afternoon, you take the train back to Cusco. You must be at the train station 30 minutes before departure; upon arriving at Ollantaytambo station, a company representative will transfer you by car to your Cusco hotel (approximately a 1-hour 30-minute drive).
Night at a hotel in Cusco.

At 5:00 AM, you are picked up from your Cusco hotel in a private vehicle and transported to the village of Cusipata-Paucarpata. The journey lasts about 2 hours while passing through several villages and offering incredible views of the Peruvian Andes. During the trip there is a stop to enjoy a hearty breakfast and to gather supplies needed for the tour. After this brief pause, the journey continues for approximately 40 minutes as you observe diverse landscapes, mysterious mountains and deep valleys. You arrive at the village of Phullawasipata (altitude 4650 m / 15217 ft) where an uphill walk of 1 hour 30 minutes begins until reaching the Rainbow Mountain at 5100 m (5100 m / 16732 ft). Here, you can enjoy impressive views of the Andes and the local fauna. Honestly, all the mountains in this area are reddish and offer striking views of the valleys and the seven-colored mountain; there is ample time for taking photos and videos. After reaching the summit, the descent begins and takes between 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes to return to Phullawasipata, where your transport awaits to take you for a well-deserved and delicious lunch. Later, there is an optional visit to local family homes to see the lifestyle of people who still practice ancient Inca traditions. Subsequently, you return to Cusco, arriving at about 16:00, and are dropped off at your hotel, thus concluding the tour of the Mountain of Colors.
Night at a hotel in Cusco.

After breakfast at your Cusco hotel, you have free time in the morning to explore the city on your own and do some last-minute shopping. At the scheduled time, you are picked up from the hotel and transferred to the airport for your return flight from Cusco to Lima and then onward home. The departure time for the flight from Cusco to Lima depends on your international flight schedule.
