Peru’s got SO MANY cool places, and Pallay Poncho is one of the newest! This colorful mountain sits by Langui Lagoon, way up at 4,650 meters (15,256 feet). They call it Pallay Poncho ’cause its stripes look like a traditional Andean poncho. Gotta see it if you’re near Cusco!
Locals found this spot during COVID times. Now it’s blowing up—like, it’s almost as popular as Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). The hike up is HARD, but the views? SNOWY PEAKS, bright colors, weird plants… TOTALLY worth it.
Good for anyone healthy—go solo, with friends, your partner, or family. It’s about nature, pushing yourself, and making memories you won’t forget.
WHY IT’S AWESOME
Start EARLY. We grab you from your Cusco hotel at 4:00 AM. Drive south in a private bus for 3.5 hours to Sicuani. Eat a big breakfast there. Then drive another hour to Layo District—where the hike starts.
From Layo, walk 5 km (about 1.5 hours) to Pallay Poncho. The trail goes up to 4,790 meters. Once there, just… WOW. Take pics, stare at the colors, breathe it all in.
After, bus back to Sicuani for a yummy buffet lunch. Then drive back to Cusco. You’ll be at your hotel by evening with epic Andes memories.
