Itinerary

DAY 1:

RECEPTION IN LIMA

You will be picked up at Lima’s airport (arrival may be in the morning or afternoon) and transferred to your hotel. Rest time is provided after arrival. Night accommodation is in Lima.

After breakfast at the hotel, a tour of “The City of Kings” begins. The tour covers the Historic Center of Lima including the Plaza de Armas (the main square), the Government Palace, the Lima Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace and additional significant sites. Later a walk takes you to the oldest bar in Lima, Bar Cordano, followed by a visit to the San Francisco Museum, a 17th-century religious art museum where you will see its impressive library and many bones in its mysterious catacombs. The tour continues with a transfer to the Pueblo Libre district to visit the Larco Private Museum, which holds over 45,000 original ceramic pieces in an 18th-century mansion built atop a pre-Columbian pyramid from the 7th century. No kidding, note the numerous treasures exhibited in one of the world’s most prestigious museums for gold and silver along with the exclusive collection of pre-Columbian erotic ceramics—a very popular attraction in South America. Overnight in Lima.

At 5:00 AM you are picked up at your Lima hotel by private transport. You will travel 245 kilometers along the Panamericana Sur to Paracas, a coastal tourist resort in the province of Pisco. During the journey there is a brief stop in Chincha for service use and/or to enjoy a typical local breakfast (optional). The transfer reaches Paracas at around 7:45 AM. At 08:00 AM, departure is made on a motorized deslizador toward the Ballestas Islands. During this segment you will see the famous Candelabro, a huge petroglyph located at the Bahía de la Independencia in Paracas. Continuing for 30 minutes out at sea, you will observe marine fauna including guanay birds and other species such as the Peruvian Booby, Guanay Cormorant, Red-legged Cormorant, Zarcillo, Peruvian Pelican, Humboldt Penguin, sea lions and dolphins. After a 2-hour tour, you return to the private port of Bahía de la Independencia. Then, between 10:00 and 10:30 AM, you depart toward the city of Ica. Arriving at approximately 11:00 AM, you will visit the artisanal vitivinicultural winery “El Catador” or “Nieto,” a nationally awarded facility where traditional methods of wine and pisco production are demonstrated and tasting sessions are provided. Later, free time is available for lunch. At 16:00, the tour proceeds to the Huacachina Oasis and Lagoon, a natural oasis located 5 kilometers west of Ica, surrounded by enormous dunes, emerald-green waters and abundant vegetation including palm trees, introduced eucalyptus and the huarango tree, which serves as a resting area for migratory birds. Here a 1-hour 30-minute BUGGY tour (using tubular buggies) is offered—perfect for travelers who appreciate a rush of adrenaline, a bit of speed and the sensation of wind on their face without worrying about a sandy splash when the buggy climbs and descends the largest dunes. After the buggy tour, you return to the oasis, have time to stroll and take photographs, and then are transferred back to your hotel. Overnight in a hotel with a pool.

Following breakfast, at 8:00 AM you board private transport for a 2-hour drive to Nazca. An overflight of the Nazca Lines is arranged where, during a 35-minute flight, you will observe up to 12 enigmatic figures such as The Whale, Trapezoids, Astronaut, Monkey, Dog, Condor, Spider, Hummingbird, Alcatraz/Flamingo, Parrot, The Hands and The Tree. For real, after the flight you enjoy a delightful lunch in the city of Nazca and then have the afternoon free to explore on your own. At 10:00 PM, you board a bus (a sleeper bus) heading to Arequipa; this leg of the journey lasts approximately 10 hours. Overnight is spent on the bus.

At 7:30 AM you are received at Arequipa’s terrapuerto. You are then transferred to your hotel to rest briefly before the tour begins. After lunch, at 13:00 your guide meets you in the hotel lobby and starts the tour of “The White City.” The tour includes a visit to the Convent of Santa Catalina—considered the jewel of Arequipa, which opened to the public in 1970 after 400 years of closure—and a tour of the Plaza de Armas, the cloisters of the Society of Jesus, and the neighborhoods of Cayma and Yanahuara offering a magnificent view of the Misti volcano. You also visit a traditional colonial mansion known as the Mansion of the Founder. At 18:00, you are transferred back to the hotel. Overnight in Arequipa.

Between 7:30 and 8:00 AM you are picked up from your hotel and travel toward Chivay, situated near one of the deepest canyons in the world. The journey lasts 4 hours, following the Yura road and skirting the Chachani snow-capped volcano toward the Pampa Cañahuas (within the Aguada Blanca Reserve and the National Salinas Reserve) which is home to South American camelids such as vicuñas. Along the wetlands of Tocra you will see a variety of migratory birds including flamingos. The tour passes by the crater of an extinct volcano (Chucura) and stops at the volcano viewpoint, which is also the highest point on the route at 4,910 m (16,120 ft), offering panoramic views of much of the western mountain range. In the afternoon, you are taken to the medicinal thermal waters at Calera, where you can relax for approximately 2 hours in water at 35–38°C. After the thermal bath, you return to your hotels. Around 7:00 PM, you are picked up to enjoy dinner with a welcome show featuring traditional dances from the Colca Valley. Overnight in Chivay.

After breakfast, the tour departs for the “Cruz del Cóndor,” the starting point of the canyon where you can observe its depth and see condors in their natural habitat. After a short stop at the Cruz del Cóndor, you continue through the Colca Canyon, passing through small villages such as Pinchollo, Madrigal, Lari, Maca, Achoma and Yanque. You return to Chivay for lunch and then proceed to Puno, arriving around 18:30. Overnight in Puno.

Following breakfast at the hotel, you are transferred to the port of Puno on Lake Titicaca. There you board a boat for a 1-hour 30-minute visit to the Floating Islands of the Uros where you will observe local customs and traditional crafts. Then, you travel by boat to Taquile Island, which holds significant ethnic, cultural and archaeological value. After visiting Taquile, the boat returns to the Puno port where you are either transferred back to the hotel or dropped off in the city center to explore on your own. Overnight in Puno.

After a good breakfast, you are collected from your hotel and taken to the bus station to board a tourist bus on the “Ruta del Sol.” The journey lasts approximately 9 hours and includes four guided excursions through attractions along the southern highland corridor. These stops include the Andahuaylillas temple, also known as the “Sistine Chapel of America”; the Inca temple of Raqchi; and at midday, a buffet lunch in Sicuani is included. The tour continues with a stop at the Raya Pass at 4335 m and a visit to the Inca-Aymara Museum of Pukara. Each stop lasts between 20 and 40 minutes, allowing time for questions, photographs and brief walks. Upon arriving in Cusco, a representative meets you and transfers you to your hotel. Overnight in Cusco.

After breakfast, your guide meets you in the hotel lobby to begin the Cusco City Tour. The tour covers the Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha), the Plaza de Armas, the main streets, the San Pedro Market, and visits two nearby ruins including the Sacsayhuamán Fortress and Kenko. At the appropriate time, you are transferred back to your hotel. Overnight in Cusco.

The tour starts at 7:30 AM with a pickup from your Cusco hotel. You travel to the upper part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and visit the typical market and colonial church in Chinchero. Next, you visit Moray, an agricultural experimentation center, and then the Maras salt mines. Afterwards, you are transferred to the town of Urubamba for lunch (optional US$20 per person). Post lunch, the journey continues along the Urubamba River to Ollantaytambo. In Ollantaytambo you visit the Inca city and the significant construction area built during the Inca apex, where descendants still live in traditional Inca houses. Finally, you are taken to the train station to board a train departing at 15:37 for a 2-hour journey to Aguas Calientes (located at approximately 2000 m / 6000 ft above sea level). Upon arrival, a representative meets you and transfers you to your hotel. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.

After breakfast, your guide meets you at your hotel lobby and directs you to the bus stop. A 30-minute bus ride takes you to the Machu Picchu Citadel. A private guided tour of over 2 hours is provided to cover key sites including the Main Plaza, the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Royal Chambers, the Temple of the Three Windows and the necropolises. For real, after the guided visit you have free time to explore on your own with an optional climb to Huayna Picchu or the Machu Picchu Mountain available for an extra US$70 per person. Alternatively, you may opt to visit the Sun Gate or the Inca Bridge with no additional fee. At the scheduled time, you board the bus to descend from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes. The usual train in the afternoon takes you from Aguas Calientes back to Ollantaytambo, and then a car transfers you to your hotel in Cusco (approximately a 2-hour drive). Overnight in Cusco.

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and a free day in Cusco to explore on your own and complete any last-minute shopping. Overnight in Cusco.

At 5:00 AM your tour guide picks you up from your hotel in Cusco using a private vehicle and transports you toward the village of Cusipata. During the journey (approximately 2 hours), you will pass through several villages and enjoy breathtaking views of the Peruvian Andes. Along the way, there is a stop for a hearty breakfast and to gather supplies necessary for the hike. After this brief pause, the journey continues for about 50 minutes as you observe diverse landscapes, mysterious mountains and deep valleys. You arrive at Phullawasipata at 4200 m (14,300 ft) where the hike begins. The uphill trek lasts approximately 2 hours until you reach the Rainbow Mountain at 5100 m (16732 ft). Along the route, you will notice glacial peaks, red-hued mountains, rocky hills and traditional llamas and alpacas grazing along the valley. At the summit (approximately 5038 m), you enjoy impressive views of the Andes and local fauna. No kidding, the surrounding mountains are distinctly red with striking views of the valleys and the Rainbow Mountain. There is ample time to take photos and videos. The descent then starts via a detour through the Red Valley, so named for its intensely pigmented soil due to high mineral content; this route is unique and you might be one of the few groups on it. The descent takes between 1 and 1.5 hours to return to Phullawasipata where your transport awaits for a well-deserved, delicious lunch in Cusipata. You then return to Cusco, arriving at about 16:00, and are transferred back to your hotel. Overnight in Cusco.

After breakfast at your Cusco hotel, you are picked up at the scheduled time and transferred to the airport for your return flight to Lima. This marks the end of our services.
